To get optimal flavor from any brew method, you need a grind that results in a consistent and uniform particle size. Burr grinders do a good job with consistency of grind, but many won’t produce a grind coarse enough for cold brew awesomeness. The problem with disc style grinders is that they tend to run hot, and often don’t produce a uniform, extra coarse grind.
All BodyBrew blends are ground using a state of the art industrial grinder that grinds coffee superior to disc-style grinders. We grind our coffee extra coarse to an extremely uniform and exact particle size of 1,200 microns. This allows water to flow easily through the coffee grounds, resulting in maximum extraction, and yield while optimizing flavor.
Most home and supermarket grinders can’t produce a coarse enough grind and max out at about 880 microns, far from the optimal 1,100-1,250 grind size optimal for cold brewing.
